Fosciandora

The entire borough of Fosciandora takes foot in the left side of the average Serchio Valley, in a high position dominated by the Apennine chain behind the establishment, and in the face of the Apuane Alps. Fosciandora after being part of the domain of Lucca, it was divided in 1451 between two neighbouring states: Lupinaia centres, and Riana Treppignano remained in Lucca, while those of Migliano, Fosciandora and Ceserana passed in Florence. The unity of the territory took place only in 1846, through the construction of the town of Fosciandora. Before nell'Ottocento, when it was not yet known potato culture in these areas the local economy was mainly formed by the collection of forest products, such as chestnuts. Among other activities were also support the livestock. Today the activities of the primary sector still absorb a quarter of the population and give priority to the production of grain and grapes, while surviving cattle and sheep. If emigration has become far more contained, the lack of local industries has brought with it the problem of continuous trips to the plain of Lucca.
